Director Marc (Pierre Niney) has his elaborate film shut down by his Parisian production company after the first rough cut viewing. Without further effort, he steals all the hard disks containing his work and flees to a picturesque French village to live with his aunt Denise, together with his team, which consists entirely of women. While Marc develops into an erratic tyrant who wants to realize his wild flood of ideas at all costs, his team is intent on simply finishing the film.
If films about filmmaking usually romanticize the team process, THE BOOK OF SOLUTIONS focuses on the director's egomaniacally demanding ego. At a time when the money pie for film production is getting (even) smaller, Michel Gondry, intentionally or unintentionally, comes closer to current reality than many critics would like. Thanks to Gondry's subtle humor and the portrayal of Marc by the likeable Pierre Niney, THE BOOK OF SOLUTIONS is a disobedient feature film and contemporary document about the industry itself, which has always been and still is dominated by men.

Michel Gondry (born 1963) is a French screenwriter, producer and director. Gondry directed his first feature film in 2001 with HUMAN NATURE. Together with Charlie Kaufman and Pierre Bismuth, he was awarded the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for VERGISS MEIN NICHT in 2005. Also very popular in the music scene, he has already worked with several well-known musicians.
In 2014, he was a member of the jury at the Berlin International Film Festival. In 2018, he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which awards the Oscars every year. In 2023, Gondry made the feature film THE BOOK OF SOLUTIONS (LE LIVRE DES SOLUTIONS), which received an invitation to the Quinzaine des cinéastes side section of the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
